The 2009 cycling season continues with the Norfolk Classic Road Race. Now in its fourth year, the Classic returns with the same classic road race route. Don't be left out in 2009! This year’s race features a simplified prize list and free entry fee for junior racers who are annual license holders. Stay in Norfolk for the second day of the Norfolk Cycling Weekend for the Nebraska State Championship Criterium held on the now famous downtown Norfolk crit course. Between races, several local attractions are available including a circus, a car show in the afternoon, and a BBQ complete with live music and beer garden in downtown Norfolk in the evening. After Sunday’s races are complete, head up to Skyview Lake for a free Christian music festival.

The first place master racer outside of the top five in each race will receive the equivalent of 5th place payment in each of the following age brackets:
Men Cat 1-2: Age 40 – 49
Men Cat 1-2: Age 50+
Men Cat 3: Age 40 – 49
Men Cat 3: Age 50+
Men Cat 4: Age 40 – 49
Men Cat 4: Age 50+
Women Cat 1/2/3: Age 40 – 49
Women Cat 1/2/3: Age 50+
RIDER OF THE YEAR

REGISTRATION
Entry fee includes USA Cycling $3.00 surcharge.
Riders must have USA Cycling annual license OR purchase 1-day license.
1-day licenses will be available for purchase at race site ($10.00).
*Junior riders who are annual license holders or who purchase an annual license receive free entry.
*Juniors without an annual license must purchase a one-day license for $10.
*Junior racers should race under their respective category (i.e., a Junior Cat. 4 will race Men 4).
No “day-of” registrations will be allowed or offered.
ONLINE: visit www.sportsbaseonline.com and register online. It is fast, secure and the preferred method of registration by the race organization. Online registration opens Monday, May 18, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. (CST) and closes at 7:00 p.m. (CST) on Friday, June 5, 2008.

Mailed entries must be received by Friday, June 5, 2009. Allow at least two days for mailed entries.
GENERAL RACE RULES & INFORMATION (USA Cycling)
All 2009 USA Cycling road race rules are in effect.
Events will be held rain or shine.
Race numbers should be placed on the right side. Race numbers must be upright and readable from the rider’s right when seated on the bike in racing position.
Issued number will be used for both racing days of the Norfolk Classic Cycling Weekend.
“Yellow line” rule strictly enforced in the road race.
Helmets must be worn at all times while on the bike.
Valid and current USA Cycling license must be presented at registration.
Promoter reserves the right to adjust start times and mileage.
Promoter reserves the right to cancel/combine events and prize lists as necessary.
Feed zone for Saturday’s Road Race is located along Highway 32, one mile east of Highway 32 and 57 junction. There will be LIMITED neutral feed support. OUT-OF-TOWN RIDERS: please contact Race Director prior to race day to make arrangements for feed zone support.
All events will be “wheels in/wheels out.” There will be NO neutral wheel support for the road race Please make sure to identify your wheels properly. Promoter is not responsible for lost or stolen wheels.
ACCOMMODATIONS AND ATTRACTIONS
Norfolk offers many national chain motels and hotels such as Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express, in addition to local favorites like the Country Inn and Norfolk Lodge and Suites. Please see www.visitnorfolkne.com for complete listings of area accommodations and attractions.
Race venues were selected to offer not only fantastic racing but also spectator friendly and family accessible facilities. Area parks, pools, and shops are easily accessible from start or staging areas. In addition, the Norfolk/Madison County Convention and Visitor's Bureau will again offer packets at sign-in with coupons and ideas for things to do in the area.
Road race starts and ends at the Stanton County Fairgrounds just south of Junction Highway 24 and 57 in Stanton. The Stanton public swimming pool is also located at the Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds and pool are both top facilities with visitor-friendly amenities and shaded picnic areas.
ROAD CLOSURES
No roads will be closed to traffic for the road race. Yellow line rule will be strictly enforced. However, the last ¼ mile of the finish for the road race will feature a complete road closure.
Road race starts and ends at the Stanton County Fairgrounds, located 12 minutes southeast of Norfolk on Highway 24. This is the classic Stanton Road Race Route, feared and revered for its hills and intensity.
Road course begins at Stanton County Fairgrounds with neutral roll out south on Highway 57 and slightly east on Golf Course Road (835 ½ Road). Race begins on Golf Course Road and continues east to Highway 15, then south on Highway 15 to Highway 32. Course turns right (west) on Highway 32 to Highway 57, then north back to Stanton. Categories with race length over 32 miles do multiple loops.
Viewing spots for spectators would be at the Stanton County fairgrounds, all facilities on site. Limited spectator viewing is also available at Stanton Golf Course.
