Crash At Manawa
There was a nasty crash at the Manawa Mayhem MTB race today: Doug Larson ended up in the hospital with some serious injuries. Doug is a great guy and rides with the Bike Masters crew. Dale Rabideau explains it better in a reprint of his post on the Bike Masters Blog. Nice to see Duane in there helping, not that its surprising though.

Wanted Housing
Submitted by Jamie Bachmann on Wed, 09/24/2008 - 7:07pm.So I was thinking of Joe, but if anyone in or close to Omaha can house poor college student Haley Wood, from Central Plains Cycling, for a weekend in October so she can ride the cyclocross race that would be super cool. Let me know and I'll contact her.

No Broken Bones But My Season Is Officially Over
Submitted by jon_downey on Sat, 09/20/2008 - 6:00pm.Raced the Branched Oak Psycowpath today. Legs, check. Feeling good? Check. Bike working as well as an old NRS can? Check. Shoulder pads? Oops, knew I forgot something.
Things were going well. I boogied up the one mile gravel road climb, in site of the leaders and about mid-pack. Into the singletrack no problem. Wow, was that the first (of four) lap I just finished? Cool. I'm right where I want to be. Lap two, still going ok.
Lap three I relaxed. I was keeping my pace, cruising. About halfway though, there is this blind right hander, with a snow fence catch to keep folks from doing a header into the trees and/or lake. Someone (Kevin Murray but who keeps track?) had hit that earlier and tore it partway down, so I was used to just crusing through the corner with the orange fence on the ground. This time, someone had dutifully put the fence back, Wow, I can blow through here and....

Due to popular consensus we are postponing the 9-18-08 MTB race. Stay tuned for the reschedule date. We are looking at a Saturday evening after the MTB race season is over with and are trying to coordinate it with the year-end club meeting. We’ll see for sure but the Saturday evening part after October 1st is a definite.
PS… It’s night ride season. Any thoughts
took a night ride under the moon at maskenthine tonight...

Joe Savoie 2nd Cat 4
Jerry Arnold 3rd Masters 45+
Richard Hake 3rd Masters 55+
John Spray 5th Cat 4
Nick Ziemet 7th Cat 3
Rich Anderson 8th Cat 4
Dan Spray 15th Cat 4
Way to go guys!
Joe Savoie is a Cat 3
One of the nicest guys in Nebraska cycling, and just about anywhere, Joe Savoie (Omaha) has qualified for and taken the upgrade to Category 3 in road racing. Joe, the 2008 Nebraska Road Race Champion, has been cycling for a number of years and is currently training for his Cat 3 debut in 2009.
Joe was instrumental in the partnership between EVCC and The Bike Way and has brought numerous new riders into cycling, including Dan Ertz, Brian Tangen, and Nick Ziemet.
Joe deserves the recognition he gets, and will most likely downplay his abilities if asked. But, make no mistake, a determined Joe Savoie is a hard racer to beat.
Congratulations Joe, you've worked hard and will make a fine Cat 3.

Fall Meetings for Club and Team
Submitted by jon_downey on Mon, 09/15/2008 - 11:33am.We are working on setting the dates and places for our fall meetings and banquet.
The current thought is to have a club meeting and awards dinner in Norfolk for club members and local riders. This would be shortly followed by a race team meeting at a more centralized location such as Fremont.
If anyone has any suggestions, comments, or date issues please let either Dan or Jon know.

Rock Racing wants to bring cool to pro cyclingSubmitted by Newsline on Sun, 09/14/2008 - 2:59pm.By BILL REITER ST. CHARLES, Mo. | Fashion mogul and team owner Michael Ball has a unique vision for the future of American cycling, and it goes something like this: Speed, raw competition, tattooed competitors, rock ‘n’ roll and, oh yes, stunning women rolling up to races in tricked out Escalades. “It’s an extremely hard sell here in the United States,” said Ball, the owner of Rock Racing, which features the “bad boys” of cycling, models and an in-your-face attitude. “When you look at those big sports, specifically baseball, it’s about tradition. So how does one get people involved in bicycle racing here?” That’s the question facing officials, cyclists, owners and fans as the Tour of Missouri draws to a close today in downtown St. Louis. Cycling may be an exciting sport blending speed, endurance and strategy. But none of that matters if you’re just another fringe sport without enough eyeballs watching what you do.
