Bad Week for MTB Tires

Try as I might, I could not get through a ride on the mountain bike this week. Thursday I was in Lincoln so I took the NRS along planning to ride Wilderness Park. It was borderline muddy but some careful maneuvering kept me out of trouble. But, all that maneuvering helped me find a giant nail which destroyed my only tube. Several attempts at patching it yielded me a walk back to my truck.
To add insult to injury, when I replaced the tube I found the sidewall had gotten cut and the tire was toast. Scratch one Nevegal off the inventory.
Off goes the remaining Nevegal and back on go my well-used Scorpions.
I went to Maskenthine Sunday to take advantage of the primo trail conditions and do my own unofficial three hour marathon. it was great. I was getting faster as the morning went on. the bike seemed tuned to perfection and all was right with the world.
About a fourth of the way through my fifth lap the back tire sidewall shredded with a loud bang, leaving me afoot again. Scratch one Scorpion.
My tire inventory is halved, and I am left without a matching set of tires. So much for the money I had planned on spending on a tubeless set-up.
